so balmy...in fact, we were dealing with 12-18" of slush packed

4th Annual Hawkeye Birthday
Ride
3/2/2002
It was an absolute balmy March the 2nd
with temperatures approaching 65. There were Twenty-Seven of The
World's Highest Technology Machines " Waiting in the Wings "...engines
revving, mufflers belching...drivers fartin' and drinkin' beer. The
Sun's occasional Silhouette offered neither hint nor clue...that
although twenty seven would depart...ONLY TWENTY SIX WOULD RETURN...or
so we thought !!!
( Note: Actually, the missing Polaris
was eventually located. As it turned out, an exhaustive, 49 mile "
back-track " had brought us right back to The Hawkeye Inn. Apparently
Mr. Hawkeye had gotten himself bogged-down in the winter's
accumulation of gravel which had built up in the middle of
Kennerdell's North Tunnel Road. Although many ropes, a wench, 2
come-a-long riggings and Charlie's new backhoe were required to
eventually secure the machine, we were finally able to get him pulled
safely back onto his driveway. His machine is in recuperation and
allegedly being prepared for the next big ride. Happy Birthday Bob and
we'll see you next March !!! )
