Timber sale nets $13.8 million in Clarion County

CLARION - More than 5,000 acres of timberland in parts of Clarion County has been sold for $13.8 million, according to a deed filed with the county register and recorder.
The buyer is identified as the Clarion Timber Co., a Pennsylvania limited partnership with an address listed under the Lyme Timberlands LLC in Hanover, N.H.
A deed shows the Plum Creek Timberlands, a Delaware limited partnership, as the grantor with an address in Seattle, Wash.
Register and recorder Greg Mortimer said Wednesday the transaction is the largest he has seen in the county.
The property is situated on a total of 21 tracts of land located in parts of nine townships including Farmington, Paint, Millcreek, Beaver, Washington, Knox, Highland, Ashland and Elk.
For realty transfer tax purposes, the deed shows the $13,812,354 purchase price is allocated among the parcels in the townships with Farmington at $6.9 million; Paint, $2.7 million; Millcreek, $2,197,515; Washington, $867,788; Beaver, $615,277; Knox, $178,236; Ashland, $160,428; Elk, $106,952; and Highland, $85,307.
Revenues to local school districts were listed as $39,732 to North Clarion, $13,928 to Clarion Area, $10,987 to Clarion-Limestone and $4,413 to Keystone.
A representative at the office of Lyme Timberlands in Hanover couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
